Turbulence, Funnels and Mad Ramblings in Miami!

 

So I was flying back from the Galapagos Islands and Miami where we recently spent our honeymoon trip and I had a few minutes of turbulence!

 

Not just me by the way……. That’s just rude!

 

I actually said to Jo, “ I wondered what the pilots do when we hit turbulence”….

 

Do they think, oh sh*t this is bad, lets just keep going into it, or do they rise above it?!

 

I then thought that this is like trying to get out of a rut in your lifestyle, you either keep progressing in the chemical sh*t storm (the clouds and turbulence) and end up in a far worse position……. Or do you rise above it (the clear sky) , take action and move on to better things and engage in better habits.

 

That’s all easy and said!

 

BUT you have to be in control of your thoughts……… (Acceptance)

If you aren’t accepting that the food you put in front of you is causing the result (your body, your health) then you are NOT in control at this stage.

 

If your mind is an instrument of torture at this stage then you will continue to self sabotage and start the slippery slope into “the funnel” ……(more on that in a second).

 

You see, your thoughts are not facts………and there is a huge difference between perception and reality!

 

EXAMPLE- the age game……yep….I have examples too of clients who “ thought “ they were too old to make lifestyle habit changes that would improve their LIVES forever!

 

This also happens in these examples:

 

–       we tune out to being healthy…..yep that’s for the gym freaks

–       “a fit body isn’t for me”- I am past that…BS I have mums and dads in better shape than their adult children

–       age is the precursor for A, B and C………..

 

And to be honest “mainstream” life becomes a side show for these people, it seems unattainable…….

 

This goes back to the mind conditioning that we have become a sponge to….

 

– The media tell us that most of us are obese (yep its true), but does that make it acceptable…..so its normal, so its ok…… it’s not OK…..

 

 

– Families  become known as the “big family”

 

– Women get told they are fatter than men (yes women do have more body fat…but that’s not to obesity levels).

 

So whilst we are conditioned like this the “funnel of enjoyment” in your life will narrow.

 

What do I mean…….

 

Well I watch people a lot……..

 

 

-I watch their behaviours….

 

-I hear the way they speak to others…..

 

-I listen to the way they speak about themselves…..

 

 

To me the funnel at the top is wide (when it’s the right way up), in this instance this funnel is the capacity for bad lifestyle habits.

 

IF you engage in lots of these you will decrease your ability to live life 100%.

 

So you IF  you fail to accept that the food you eat, the sleep you get, the exercise you do, the people you talk with and the thoughts you have are HABITS that impact on your options in life you will be limited in what you CAN achieve!

 

Your life literally collapses beneath the habits you form!

 

HOWEVER,

 

If you take responsibility for

 

-what goes in your mouth- remember we are not dogs we don’t need to reward ourselves with food

– the time you go to bed most of the week

-the exercise you do

– the conversations you have with yourself

– the people you choose to spend time with   (I will talk about cake and dress bullying soon)

 

YOUR funnel will soon be Turned upside down!

Narrow at the top illustrating fewer poor habits. Wider at the bottom illustrating potential for fuller lives.

 

Yep the Sh**ty habits are now narrowed at the top and the bottom of the funnel (the options in life) are opened right up!

 

Now your mind is not an instrument of torture, its more involved with being creative and exploring options you now have!

 

Yep in simple terms you are richer (metaphorically)…..you have more to give and more capacity to give your  true best.

 

So go now and decide on three crappy habits you need to kick out and start reducing the stress you are unnecessarily putting your body and mind under and start opening up more opportunities.

 

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO SUCCEED.
