This Morning , My Chocolate Factory Experience & Social Norms

I mentioned this last week on our page. It was re-affirmed this

morning after an epic meeting with a client. We normally train

(not workout- remember that) but we decided last week that this mornings session

would be more productive if we did an ultrasound body scan and started to knuckle

down on her nutrition. The key thing she said is “I UNDERSTAND NOW”.

This is why I wish every client could come to a seminar that I give.

But now this lady knows that she only needs to change a few of her

behaviours and she will NAIL IT! Her resting heart rate, blood pressure were

similar to an athlete (she is not, she is a mum of 2 and runs a business)

and relative risks of diabetes, heart disease and stroke were all very low

according to our assessment.

>>>  THIS LEADS ME TO THIS  >>>

The sooner that those responsible for helping people with their

health (myself included in that, along with doctors, dieticians,

nutritionists, scientists, teachers etc) shift their mindset from

WEIGHT to BEHAVIOURS the sooner there will be a lot more happy

people who enjoy exercising, enjoy eating the right foods and get to

experience the benefits of FEELING that this brings…

HYPOCRITE DISCLAIMER: I am currently running a project called the NORTH

CORNWALL WEIGHT LOSS TRIAL……. I only called it this because if I called

it a “health and general awesomeness trial”, no one would be interested in trying it for me! Well they might….but a lot of people are still in the scales mindset.

We also need to start becoming more aware of the stigma that

surrounds exercise, people who aren’t used to it, get bloody scared

of this sh*t! I know, I speak to them every week, they see some

horrendous stuff and

until then those who do CHOOSE to be healthy will be the “ABNORMAL”

(or “fitness freaks”) BUT the reality is the ones who are at the

most risk or could benefit most are putting their ladders up

against the wrong wall (the weight loss one) and missing the most

important part of the BEHAVIOUR change!

>>>>>>  Socially Acceptable  >>>>>

Its funny, on from what I said about weight and behaviours…..it

seems that we actually as a society seem to value normal. Not just

in terms of foods, but everything…if someone has a belief that we

don’t or cant understand, they are abnormal……

I was looking at Charlie and the Chocolate factory the other day, I

am sure Augustus is getting bigger in these films! That made me

think, all it is, is a reflection of what’s going on around us!

Kids are getting bigger (not all of them) .

Then that made me think about when I was in Thailand in 2010

writing the equestrian athlete plan, we ate morning glory (yep a

veggie), greens for breakfast, an eye opener for me! I just ate

porridge til then!

But this all links back to what is socially acceptable, I get

called a freak for eating anything other than that stuff in a

cardboard box for breakfast! But yet would those same people say

that it is socially acceptable to put iron filaments in their own

cereal (fortified with iron, yep).

Without going into too much detail, anyone who knows much about

nutrition will know that iron is best absorbed in haem form not

with phytates (bran).

So next time you get shot down for thinking outside the box and

actually getting a grip of what you do to your body , after all it

is yours, just remember that socially acceptable will only become

less acceptable as the people who stick with the processed foods

become the NORM!

Catch you later in the week with some ninja tips on reducing body fat

by changing a few behaviours…..ONE OF THEM IS ….tell the scales to

chill out!

Have a great week
