Incase You Missed It….7 Simple Things You Can Do To Get Your Body Back Now The Silly Season Is Over!

7 Simple Things You Can Do To Get Your Body Back Now The Silly Season Is Over!

Ok lets face it, the Christmas holidays are a bit of a challenge when it comes to keeping on track with your health and fitness goals. NOT impossible, but more things do crop up than normally.

For some, the time when the children go back to school, when the holidays have been done and the endless visits of friends and family slow down a little , and this presents them with a chance to get back to routine or perhaps take a check on what really was happening to their bodies during this time.

Whilst the winter may have presented problems for some there were others who got in amazing shape and I saw them before my very eyes. So I thought I would share with you seven very simple things you too can do this week to start getting your body back!

Actually removing the stresses then supporting the detoxification pathway by adding supportive nutrition and exercise is key.

So forget these faddy diet pills, fat loss shakes and hour and half long gym sessions if you either want your body back or be in the best shape of your life.

I thought I would start with the Liver. Our liver is our one of our major organs of elimination. It is an extremely hardworking organ in that it everything that goes into our mouths must be processed by our liver.

The liver has many functions including the breaking down of toxic chemicals – alcohol and pesticides as well as the storage of many compounds (Glycogen, vitamin D, A and many B vitamins). It’s probably fair to assume that the liver will have been burdened even if not by alcohol, but by the sheer quantities and perhaps the types of foods we consumed over the silly season!

The liver also plays a role in blood sugar regulation. It has the ability to convert stored Glycogen (obtained from the intake of Carbohydrate) into Glucose for release into the blood to help regulate blood sugar levels if it is needed.  The liver also plays a role in manufacturing of proteins, which contribute to blood clotting and libido, transportation of substances around our body. Not forgetting the well known protein, High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) – responsible for removal of cholesterol from vessel walls to the liver for excretion, therefore making it an important factor in cardiovascular health.

So, let’s help you get back on track!

Drink approximately 1 litre of filtered water per 50lbs of bodyweight, per day – this will help cleanse the liver and kidneys and help with weight loss.

  • Add milk thistle to your water. I recommend my clients take the liquid form.
  • Decrease alcohol intake ! No brainer here!! Get it out if want abs, get it out if you want to stop feeling sluggish! Get it out if you are serious about being in better shape!!
  • Avoid sugar – particularly refined. Our liver converts sugar into fat. Also high sugar foods create an acidic environment in our blood.
  • Make sure you train at least 3 times per week using metabolic resistance training. This sounds fancy but it basically sums up the style of training that encompasses high intensity bouts of bodyweight or weighted resisted exercise. It is usually done for 30-40 minutes in an organised fashion with particular attention to mobility and activation at the start with the main workout component lasting between 25-30 minutes, allowing time to do a metabolic finisher and stretch. Leaving your body to burn the calories whilst you recover and sleep over the next 36-48 hours.
  • Increase raw fruit and vegetables – especially dark green leafy veggies – these will help support your liver and its ability to detoxify. Berries are tremendous antioxidants if your body has been under increased stress
  • Start getting to bed  by 10pm on school nights

So there we go seven simple things that if you do them I guarantee you will look and feel better. Now it would be a bit unethical of me if I didn’t offer you the chance of great health like all the above awesome people.

Thanks very much for reading and what ever your reason is, I look forward to helping you make the most of the one opportunity you get!

My Best ,

Matt
